Holy Matrimony

Sacrament of Marriage (Holy Matrimony)

A Sacred Covenant of Love

For Catholics, the Sacrament of Marriage—also called Holy Matrimony—is more than a legal agreement. It is a sacred covenant, a public sign that a man and woman give themselves totally to one another. This lifelong union also reflects the love of God. The loving bond between husband and wife mirrors God’s values and speaks to the importance of family in the life of the Church.

“The loving union of husband and wife speaks of family values and also God’s values.”
