Shelter for the Homeless

The shelter program has been in existence for over 25 years.

We provide a warm bed and a home cooked meal in a safe environment for 10 guests, 3 nights a week. Our guests come from The Living Room, which is a drop-in center operated by Bronxworks. They are screened prior to arriving at the shelter.

The shelter is located in the lower church and will be open Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings, October through April, hosting 10 male guests. The following volunteer opportunities are available:

Greeters (7:00pm - 9:00pm)

Greeters, working in teams of 2-3 people, set up for the guests' arrival and serve a family style dinner (prepared by a volunteer cook) to the guests. Must be over 18.

Overnighters (9:00pm - 7:00am)

Overnight volunteers sleep at the shelter on cots in a separate room from the guests' room. They set up a light buffet-style breakfast (cereal, juice, coffee) in the morning and see the guests onto their bus. Overnight volunteers work in teams of two. Must be over 18.

Cooks/Meal Donation

Volunteer cooks provide a complete, well-balanced dinner for the 10 guests. The meal is prepared at home and dropped off at the shelter. Monetary donations for the purchase of a meal can also be made. (If you would like to donate the meal in someone's honor or memory, please let us know.) Cooks may sign up for any number of nights - even just one time during the course of our season would be a great help.

Monetary donations are also welcome and can be made generally, or if desired, for a specific purpose.

Please contact the Rectory if you are interested in participating.
